It’s been 100 years since the start of the Great War. So it’s timely that the WWI commemoration and Chris award-winning NFB doc,’And We Knew How To Dance: Women and WWI’, is playing at various locations throughout Canada over the next few months. The film features heartwarming stories and interviews with some brave and feisty women who were there, while reflecting on the war and the effect it had on their lives. When they entered the labour force, they were all young and among the first group of women to work outside the home. And they were all between 86 and 100 years old when they were filmed! We are proud to announce that Living Dolls has been nominated for a Golden Sheaf Award, under the POV Documentary category as part of the Yorkton Film Festival. The festival will be taking place in Yorkton, Saskatchewan May 22-25.
More than 130 non-fiction films are announced as the official selections for the 11th Annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, which takes place February 15-23 in Missoula, Montana. The 2014 lineup was selected from over 1,000 submissions from around the world, and features an array of films covering all genres in the feature, short, and mini-doc categories. Living Dolls played at the Austin Film Festival at the end of October to an enthusiastic and engaged audience. I (Maureen) was there and really enjoyed the Q&A after the film screening. It’s a festival worth following or going to!

Makin’ Movies filmmaker, Maureen Judge presents a short workshop that focuses on how to make short family and other milestone videos using a simple and portable device like your smart phone or tablet at Ryerson University’s Chang School of Continuing Education over two Saturdays April 13 and 20, 2013.
The class includes a hands-on overview of storytelling, production and editing basics using free tools as well as screenings of short videos and class discussion.
Going beyond snapshots
Once you learn the “how to”, you can produce and copy your short personal memory videos to a DVD, upload them to YouTube/Vimeo and share them with a family member or friend. It’s an easy and fun way to capture special moments from our lives.
